About Us ..

The Skiff Lake Cottage Owners Association Inc. is made up of volunteers who oversee and maintain stewardship of the lake and it's residents.  It is an incorporated body and has been in existence for a number of years.  The SLCOA works closely with residents as well as all levels of government to conserve and enhance the environment of the lake and its surrounding area.  Its Mission is to be achieved through the observance of the following goals and objectives and the activities are the following:

 

  1. ​To monitor water levels and quality in an ongoing basis (water testing and shoreline patrol)

  2. To promote lake/water and boating safety (through the encouragement of Safe Boating Courses)

  3. To be a source of information for lake residents on all plans, by-laws and government actions affecting the area

  4. To educate lake residents on Clean Drain and Dry,  septic maintenance in efforts to encourage a Healthy and Safe Lake.

  5. To maintain membership in NBALA and other organizations dedicated to the conservation of the area

  6. To promote a sense of community among lake residents such as eco paddles, Swag Shop, calendar and puzzle fun.

  7. To promote fire safety and prevention with education.

  8. Promotes an informative and current communications network (website etc) for members and Facebook Group to share photos and stories.  Design is volunteer, cost is platform.

  9. Signage and Boat Wash Station, hose and power cord.  Location and water is volunteer.

Skiff Lake Cottage Owners Association Inc. is a member in good standing with New Brunswick Alliance of Lakes Associations.  

What are the benefits of this membership?

  • Water Testing --Using equipment obtained through funding from the provinces Environmental Trust Fund

  • Bathymetry Mapping -- Mapping reflecting lake depth and water temperature.  This mapping is vital in determining potential areas for Eurasian Water Milfoil and potential Cyanobacteria Blooms.

  • Insurance coverage for Healthy  Lake Volunteers.

The Role of a Lake Association

A lake association provides a sense of community and can play a vital role in developing a stewardship program. Common interests and goals can be voiced and appropriate actions can be taken to achieve them. Associations link residents together on the basis of the same overall goal - the betterment and health of your  lake.  

A healthy Lake is protecting your investment and your family's health

An organization with the best chances of success: 

  • Has an eye toward the future -- Identifying 

    possible watercourse alternations
  • Recognizes a broad range of issues and requirements--Climate Change and adverse lake affects

  • Anticipates unforeseen occurrences that could change the lake -- PNA and Timber Harvest 

  • Collaborates with other lake organizations--Membership with NBALA
